Immersing yourself, getting wrapped in the curtains of the wild; – a completely different addiction.

Breathing in the organic woodland air with a touch of earthly wildflowers, moist moss and fresh herbs. All this laced with chirping, buzzing, growling, trumpeting and whistling sounds blending together into a rewarding cocktail full of life. Familiarising with animal behaviour up-close and experiencing the world as they see it, is quite a giving experience.

WILDLIFE SPECIES ENCOUNTERED

Serengeti acts as a haven to Africa’s most prestigious wildlife species. During the walk guests cross paths with; the heightened and sensational Giraffes, cinnamon-brown naturally tanned Impala herds, rugged African Buffalo herds as their fur slightly fans from the warm savannah breeze.

At the Mara River, barrel shaped Hippos rest by the banks. They retort into the water later in the day when the sun begins to melt the ground. Olive green can be sighted by the river bank as well, the Crocodiles getting the most out of the warmth from the outside.

Not to mention dung Beetles, Spider webs, Snake trails, Hippo trails, migrating Wildebeests, animal tracks and spoors.

  • EPITOME OF THE EXPERIENCE

Each group of guests gets inspired differently. Some will draw excitement from the eye-catching wildlife. Others term the genius dung Beetle as their muse. Witnessing the microscopic, almost irrelevant insect help bring back minerals and nutrients into the earth by a single act of digging a hole and burying Elephant dung.

  • MOST EXCUISIITE VIEW-POINTS DURING THE SERENGETI WALKING-SAFARI

The wildebeests effortlessly top the charts.

It occasionally happens that guests lounge at the Mara River without notice of the wildebeests crossing. In cases like these, the guests are required to disguise their identity by kneeling down, that way, drawing less attention.

8PM WITH FRED ASTAIRE

Listening to top hat 1935,Fred astaire/ Ginger rogers,’cheek to cheek’.There is something about this classic that sweeps me off my feet.Could it be because I’m naturally fragile?or that sweet nothings do it right?all in all,I’m in abounding solace as we speak.Sometimes me and my belittling fears need serenity from time to time.

It’s quite windy outside if I may add,and the temperatures have dropped.A few downpours here and there, just a little espresso, and that would have sealed the deal.I’m not complaining though now I’m I?’Course not!Because I’m actually doing the thing I enjoy the most.I’m currently in a casino full of words, gambling in favor of which words to bag home and once again, waste just a little more of your time, dear reader.

I’ll tell you what I’m thinking of at the moment.I wish I could have that magical piece of paper, and that magical ‘genie’ pen.You know, where whatever I’ll write down comes to life?Talk of writing down my own fate.Cool right?I know.Anyone would kill for those. At this point of my life, anything seems doable for me.See,this is because I like how my life is currently. But to be really honest,I don’t like every-thing.Come to think of it,I don’t think I’d last a week with that magical pen and paper.I’d get bored in the next hour or so.Life would be so boring.I will have all my accomplishments,I would get what I want,no challenges,no hardships and trials,in two words-no fun!

But someone will ask, what about a time machine? Well..I don’t believe in science fiction.Scientists are too corny sometimes with their ever so complex notions. They make us live in an artificial world with their never-ending ideology and take away our power to live in reality.Making work easier huh? .Say,if I go back in time and fix a certain something that went adrift, how sure I’m I the future occurrence will be better,or will it be worse than the original happening?Yeap! But one’s got to be a bit optimistic not so?

One thing is for sure,God is the greatest author, the greatest time keeper and the greatest inventor.I wouldn’t want it any other way.

On second thought,I wouldn’t mind a few changes here and there, ha!.Here are some just to name a few;
I wouldn’t mind a professional heartbreak handyman. Not cupid though!goodness, that little …! Ugh.Nevertheless,(cheek to cheek now on loop) a serious handy man who fixes broken hearts. The pain that our palm-sized heartbeat givers endure is incomparable.Sometimes it gets me extremely anguished I tell you.My itsy bitsy tiny heart that works so hard to keep me alive, gets burdened with everything. From decisions,to emotions,to keeping me alive. And people who say its the soul that does the living, fine then.I expostulate that fact that the soul has life. You know what?I will concur though, when word has it that a patient in E.R needs a soul transplant.Until then, all hail to you tough guy,for making it to 72beats per minute and for making sure blood is ever enough everywhere.Salute!

Next I’d like,a freakin’ Neuralyzer people.Oh and scientists with your contradictory theories,I’m sure you haven’t invented one that can wipe your memories and then revert them back now have you? Yeah…go back to the labs and bust some nuts alright! I’m not firing shots by the way,I’m raising the bar higher.(Their white lab coats are so annnoying right?).Basically,we do need to let some memories go,and then when we are about to make the same mistake, they hit us again. That would be awesome I’m assured of it.But come to think of it,I wouldn’t want my brain smothered all the time yeah?I truly enjoy it this way.Keeping the memories and my brain organs intact and in one piece.

A tree that grows money?Almost surreal right? And then it would have a dry season that makes our pockets empty and a wet season where we get to ‘make it rain’ folks.Listen,I’m not about the Abercrombie and Fitch lifestyle here, but if that tree grew in my backyard,I’d yank it and make a garden right on my bedside.I’m not selfish,it’s just how it is.

I want countless and countless of changes.But what I came to know is change may be constant,but the consistency is timely.I may change out of sadness,bliss,misfortunes or grief,but God made me in a certain design that I can never ever alter whatsoever.I may get livid for a few years then get over it,I may try to fit in but at the end of the day I’m not a Roman.Change will exert change in me,but it will not impact my true origin.Because my dear oglers-;
Originality is timeless.

SLIPPING INTO TANZANIA

I’m the one for adventures. Doesn’t matter how high the tide is or how dusty the pathway may become, I’ll jump right in front of the risk.

So, being the typical Kenyan that I am, crossing over to another country with barred restrictions sounds like a handful to me. Talking about international passport this, temporary permit that, yada, yada, yada. What then do I do? I do more research, and low and behold, slipping into Tanzania on a canoe along the River Ruvu of the Taita-Taveta County.
Tell you what, at first I was sceptical about this. What if I get abducted? What if I get arrested on the other side? So many endless what if’s that I found myself securely sited on this tiny canoe boat, holding on to dear life and letting the hands of time take charge.

The boats aren’t as comfortable, especially if you were to go there as a large group. Fortunately there are about four of them, meaning business is quite lucrative.

It was a sequence of scenic breathtaking views that the inhabitants found distruptive. For instance, the presence of the papyrus reeds from side to side, but as a hard core nature lover, this was simply beautiful. As shallow as it may seem, the waters here are quite deep, with the occasional appearanes of crocodiles and hippos evidently during night time.

Fishing is an activity occuring here from time to time, in this fresh water lake that flows into Lake Jipe which then navigates its way along the Kilimanjaro.

The business is mainly operated by Tanzanian’s of the shambaa community.
On arrival, you are welcomed by the mild slaps of the breeze being fanned around by the legendary palm trees. An immediate nostalgia for me as I remembered my home town,Diani. It definitely was a homely feeling.

As short lived as it was,the serenity and calmness felt like longevity.Whenever you’re in Taita Taveta County be sure to try out on this …mini escapade!

WHY SHOULD TAITA-TAVETA RESIDENTS PAY FOR WATER…

…WITH NJORO SPRINGS AT THEIR BECK AND CALL?!

Located at the coastal region, which is the heart of tourism in Kenya, lies the 6th county; Taita-Taveta. When your hear Taita-Taveta, you know it is all about rich underground minerals, eye catching wildlife reserves, life-giving water masses, hills and mountains that show off every so often, not to forget the magnanimous scale of farming and agricultural activities.
Now let us talk water bodies, let us talk about the cool and refreshing Njoro springs.

The water comes from underground in a streaming fashion, with temperatures of -5 degrees and below. Once you get a drop of this piece of heaven, you’ll regret why you’ve had to buy bottled water all your life.

David a motorcyclist, resident of the region who has grown up there says,
“We never had to look around for water. Many people from this area just stop by and fetch, even people from far away want a taste of this. Sometime back people swam in the springs and there had been several cases of
drowning dead.”

The Njoro springs meanders through several pathways. It routes to River Ruvu which then connects to the renowned lake Jipe. Then it routes towards different fields and finally flows all the way to Tanzania. There once was a route diverting into the residential farms that has now for some unknown reason been blocked by the authorities.

The water flow was never as swift as it is now. There was a block around the
rift, filled with massive rocks trapping the water into its confinement.According to David, former Taita Taveta member of parliament;Basil Criticos, had a small minor explosion done to create a pathway for the cold streaming ruffles.

Now getting down to the scoop.Despite the availability of this large water body,broad-deep-wide;why are taita taveta county residents then plunged down to water rationing?not to mention monthly water charges with water being supplied from ‘ only the government knows where’.The main source of the springs are restricted to the public for unorthodox reasons I might say.Did I mention that the water is supplied to the Tanzanians bordering?

Should I blame the residents or the power hungry veterans that are glued into authority day in day out, possessed by the magnitude of accesses a title can grant them.Or maybe, just maybe,it’s the diseased cycle of the third world countries.

Despite all this, one thing is certain, there is enough water out here fit for the entire Coastal region.Heck, the entire nation if need be!
